"SNES-CD" or "Play Station"
Before the Playstation brand has been launched at all, Nintendo turned to Sony to create a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES console. Of course, Sony wanted to develop a separate console that supports SNES cassettes and own games CDs. Although the "Play Station" on the CES 1991 should be announced, Nintendo later retired from the contract and canceled all work with Sony, as well known that the latter would have control over all SNES CD-ROM titles. Through a series of twists, including Sony, who approaches Sega and deal with Nintendo under the name "Play Station", the company was newly founded and the PlayStation, from which we knew and we love, became Japan in December 1994 released. Subsequently, it met in September 1995 in North America and Europe.
Final Fantasy 7, Dragon Quest 7 on PS One
In the event that the previous point it did not underline, Nintendo and Sony had some hostility. So it did not help that games like Final Fantasy 7 and Dragon Quest 7 have been passed to the development of the Nintendo 64 console in favor of the PlayStation CD-ROM format. Nintendo's reaction to Squaresoft was then according to the Charoshi Kawai Character Programmer: "If you leave us, never return." Ouch. Although the cartridges of the N64 were too limiting for both games, it was still a heavy blow when considering how the franchise was tenting on Nintendo platforms.
"Full" games on demo discs
Anyone who grew up in the 90s will remember demo discs. Normally bundled with magazines or other games, demo discs provide preview for titles that are still in development. However, because developers did not want to create separate demo builds, they have stored the entire game with restrictions on the CD. Crash Bash is a good example, and when a cheat code was used, players could access the entire game over the demo. This was not free lunch - most of these builds were still in the beta phase - but it was crazy at the time.
Soundtracks and Special Audio
Due to the functioning of compression in many games, it was possible to insert a game disk into your PC and play the appropriate soundtracks. Some titles like Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast have steered this in an interesting direction even though they were on a GD-ROM. When you insert the disc into a PC, an audio file will be played from the main cast in which you are prompted to save the world and do not waste time.
operation manual
Another seemingly lost art under video game companies bundles extensive operating instructions with their CD packages. The operating instructions for PC games, especially for strategy games and flight simulations, were also quite extensive because they required explanations of gameplay systems and mechanics. What can we say? The internet was not a big deal at that time.
Pick up
Although you may not pay much attention to a game CD in the console subject, there are some interesting designs that you should look at. For example, Xenoblade Chronicles would use the hole in the gameboard to replace the circular part of the monado. The special edition of Resistance 3 transforms the CD into a record of the old school, on which the name of the game and the copyright information are also arranged in the same way, which gives the album the vintage feeling.
0xD15EA5E
Illness is nothing, which you usually associate with the Nintendo Wii. For some reason, Nintendo used a hex code called 0xD15EA5E to separate the update and games partitions on a Wii games disc. In Leet Speak, D15EA5E essentially means "disease". Maybe it was a warning from all the terrible upcoming motion control titles?
Origin of the Blu-ray name
Blu-ray discs are pretty awesome. Not only do you offer even more storage space for high-end games, but also allow the comfortable playback of ultra-HD movies from home. Have you ever wondered why you are called "Blu-ray discs"? The name refers to a blue laser used to read and record on a Blu-ray disc. The ultimate irony? It is actually a violet laser that is used.
The first Blu-ray drives
Sony was the first company that implemented with the PS3 a Blu-ray disc format for consoles. Apart from that, it was far from the company's first Blu-ray drive. Sony introduced rewritable Blu-ray drives for PCs in July 2006. These were unfortunately not good, and used as Blu-ray drives in the PS3, this resulted in high production costs and a long loss of units sold.
Ps4 vs. ps3 disc reading speed
Apart from the production costs, the Blu-ray drive has proven itself in the long term for Sony. The PS4 Blu-ray drive would be a significant progress towards the PS3. It was evaluated with a 6x constant angular velocity or CAV with a maximum read speed of 27 MB per second. Compare that with the PS3, which gave a 2-fold CAV rating and in the best case a reading speed of 9 MB per second. Of course, in the future, a further upgrade will probably be required to ... leads us.
BDXL discs - the next step?
With the advent of 4K games and "advanced" titles, games like Gears of War 4 need 100 on the Xbox One X already 100 GB installation memory. The future of Game discs is still crazy because there are BDXL discs that can accommodate data between 100 and 128 GB. It is possible that you use in consoles of the next generation like the inevitable PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett, although the time will ultimately show it.
HD DVD player for Xbox 360
In the past, Microsoft did not choose the Xbox 360 console for Blu-ray format. Instead, an additional player called HD DVD was introduced, which was disconnected from the main console. As a result, numerous titles like Assassins Creed 3, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and even the Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Legendary Edition to be delivered on several DVDs. The HD DVD player and the overall format surprised no one.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Too Big for the Xbox 360
Speaking of several discs, one of the reasons why Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is still exclusive to the PS3, the confidence is on Blu-ray. Due to the size of the game, it was also too large for several DVDs on Xbox 360 (even if dual-layer discs were used). In fact, the same topic plagued the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection, the Metal Gear 1, the first four Metal Gear Solid Title, Metal Gear Solids VR missions and Peace Walker and a lot of additional content for the PS3.
Cleaning discs
Let's get to the point and maybe the true reason why you are all here - how do you clean these damn slices? Now, as it turns out, normal water and a smooth piece of fabric are all necessary. You can also use disc resurfacers that you can use to remove the worst scratches themselves when they tend to do.
